Eat A Clove Of Raw Garlic With Your Food
When most people think of garlic, they think of culinary deliciousness: the fragrant smells of French and Italian food emitted from sautéing garlic in butter or when it’s infused in olive oil. Sometimes bad breath and vampires creep into our thoughts! But what about the health benefits?
Here are seven reasons you should eat a clove of raw garlic every day.
1) May lower the risk of cancer
People who consumed raw garlic at least twice a week experienced lower rates of lung cancer than those who consumed raw garlic less often, according to a seven-year study published in cancer prevention research in July 2013. Garlic may also be beneficial for preventing or treating colon and pancreatic cancer, according to the University of Maryland Medical Center.
2) Reduces blood pressure
Cardiovascular diseases like heart attacks and strokes, these are the world’s biggest killers. High blood pressure or hypertension is one of the most important drivers of these diseases. Human studies have found garlic supplementation to have a significant impact on reducing blood pressure in people with high blood pressure.
3) Detoxify heavy metals in the body
At high doses the sulfur compounds in garlic have been shown to protect against organ damage from heavy metal toxicity. A four-week study in employees of a car battery plant found that garlic reduced lead levels in the blood by 19%.
4) Boosts the immune system
Consuming garlic is one way to give your immune system an extra boost with high antioxidants. Garlic helps to eliminate free radicals in sickness causing toxins. One 12-week study of 140 randomized volunteers confirmed that garlic or Allison supplements had an adverse effect on the common cold. In fact colds were reduced by more than 60% in the volunteers who received garlic.
5) Improves cholesterol levels
Garlic can lower LDL cholesterol for those with high cholesterol. Garlic supplementation appears to reduce LDL cholesterol by about 10 to 15 percent.
6) Rich in antioxidants
Oxidative damage from free radicals contributes to the aging process. High doses of garlic supplements have been shown to increase antioxidant enzymes in humans, as well as significantly reduce oxidative stress in those with high blood pressure. The combined effects may help prevent common brain diseases like Alzheimer’s disease and dementia
7) Increases estrogen levels in menopausal women
As women get older they often have to bear in mind the loss of calcium. Osteoporosis studies on mice have shown that there is a correlation between calcium and osteoporosis, however studies have also shown that garlic can minimize bone loss by increasing estrogen in females.
